Email Marketing

“Email is the glue that binds everything together”

– Michael Stelzner

Although the phrase “You’ve Got Mail” has been around for a number of decades, email marketing is far from dead. In fact, it still remains one of the best ways to market your products and services. Many businesses have a negative perception of email marketing due to a disdain for their own inbox, but when implemented correctly, email services are a great way to capture new leads and increase engagement with an existing customer base.

In the last few years we have experienced an explosion in the use of smartphones, so much so that we now have more people using smartphones than we do desktop or laptop computers, especially in South Africa.

This plays right into our email marketing strategy; here’s why! Using email marketing is a cost-effective way to reach mobile customers without investing in new expensive technology.

Over 54 percent of smartphone users check email on their phones multiple times every day.

This means that your engaging, high-value content is very likely to be seen or even acted upon. In addition, email marketing is very easy and inexpensive to integrate into a broader marketing strategy, and is therefore often referred to as the ‘glue’ of a marketing strategy.

Another reason email marketing gets a bad name is that most businesses send an email blast twice a year (to an out-of-date list) and call it a strategy. Or even worse, they send you one or two emails EVERY day. Email marketing shouldn’t be a random, last-ditch effort thrown at people. It shouldn’t be a “flood the database” situation either, it should be a campaign driven drip strategy that constantly touches an interested list of hot leads and current customers. At WSI Durban, we believe in 100% compliance when it comes to communications legislation such as the POPI Act. We work with our attorneys to be sure we understand the legal framework in which digital communication from businesses needs to happen, and help our clients to achieve 100% compliance.

With this in mind it’s ever more crucial to make sure that you’re not only partnering with the right company, but that the company you choose actually understands the overall strategy of your business. As the saying goes “It can be 6 times more expensive to Win a new Client then to retain an Existing one.”
